Obituary for William McMahon Fairfield William “Bill” “PaPa” Gregory McMahon, 72, passed away on Tuesday October 16, 2018 at St. Albans Health & Rehab. He was born on October 13, 1946 son of the late Gregory and Hilda (Lafountain) McMahon. Bill did handyman work for anybody and hardly charged for his work, a hard worker his whole life.
He had built his family home and you would never hear him raise his voice. Pa Pa as his family called him had a calm demeanor and was strong hearted, a man of reason, he could offer the kindest insults to his family and friends. He cared for over 20 cemeteries in the area meticulously mowing and gardening.
Bill opened and closed gravesites always digging by hand shovel for many funeral directors. He was always the last man to leave the cemetery after a funeral. He was a great shot and as the story goes he once shot a coin off a fence post that was behind him by looking in a mirror.
He did not go hunting but loved to go shooting. He also had a love for children, was a great cook while his favorite meal was lasagna and brewed one hell of a cup of coffee. He would sometimes catch a hunger to go on his “drive through joy rides” where he would drive for miles after going thru the drive thru.
He was also known as an animal whisperer as many wild animals became unofficial pets of Bills. He was the hero of many and kind to all and will be missed by many. PaPa will be missed by his loving wife Patricia (Novak) McMahon, his son William Gregory McMahon III and Stacey Wouelette, a daughter Sherri McMahon and Roger Cheney, his brother-in-law John Novak and sister-in-law Nancy Pronto, 7 grandchildren: Casey Swick her husband Christopher and their children Kida-Lynn, Kaden, Kaylee , Gabriel, Ashley Leigh and husband Chad and their children Aurora, Diana, Vesta, William McMahon IV and his son William McMahon V, Thomas Murray, Kelsey McMahon and her children Aubriella, Allaya, and Bryson, Joy McMahon, Alizza McMahon, several nieces and nephews.
He was also predeceased by 4 brothers Norman Pronto, Larry Pronto, Royal Pronto, Patrick McMahon and his sister Murnie Pronto. Visiting hours will be held on Thursday October 25, 2018 from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. at A W Rich Funeral Home – Fairfax Chapel. There will be no services held.
