William H. Devereaux Jr. formerly of Pasco, Washington passed away Sunday, November 11th in Salem. Mr. Devereaux was born October 8, 1933 in Ellensburg, Washington to William Harold Devereaux Sr. and June Mary Kramer Devereaux. He worked as a clerk in the post office in Pasco, Washington from age 17 – 19.

And enlisted in the United States Airforce at age 19. One month after his enlistment he met Lorna Gene Lawrence. They married December 1, 1954 in Berkeley, California.

The couple had 4 children, Bill, Larry, Ken and Debby. While in the Airforce, he worked as a computer programmer and instructor. He created a program that was used Airforce wide for which he was awarded the meritorious service award in 1971.

He retired with the rank of Master Sergeant. After retirement from the Airforce, the family moved back to Pasco and he returned to his employment with the post office. He retired April 1, 2003.

He will be remembered for being a loyal husband, an honest, hard-working father of 4, grandfather of 15 and great grandfather of 21. He was also a fun-loving man who enjoyed music, telling stories and jokes. His family called him an “animal magnet”.

He will be dearly missed. Mr. Devereaux is survived by his beloved wife of 64 years, Lorna; 4 children and their spouses, Bill and Ericka, Larry and Theresa, Ken and Marcia, Debby and Bill; 15 grandchildren and 21 great grandchildren. A potluck Celebration of Life will be held from 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm on Sunday, December 2nd at the Salem Senior Center 6450 Fairway Avenue SE Salem, Oregon.

Private burial will take place at Columbia Memorial Gardens in Pasco, Washington.
