First Sergeant (Ret) William Harold Thompson, age 72 of Tabor City, finished his course here on earth Saturday, May 11, 2019, in his home, while surrounded by his beloved family. A native of Columbus County, Harold was born on January 3, 1947 to the late Wilton Hubert and Dorothy Nobles Thompson. Also, preceding Harold in death was a son, Joshua Daniel Suggs.

A funeral service will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday, May 14, 2019 at Olyphic Baptist Church, with Pastor Tony Ripley, Pastor Dave Williams, and Chaplin Gary Turlington officiating. An Interment service with Military Honors, will follow in the Gore Cemetery, located in the Big Cypress Community. Visitation will be held from 6:00-8:00, Monday evening at Worthington Funeral Home in Chadbourn.

Harold was a Veteran, having honorably served in the Vietnam War. Mr. Thompson began serving as a Patrolman with the North Carolina Highway Patrol in 1977 and retired as a First Sergeant in 2002. He proudly served several Counties: Columbus, Harnett, Robeson, and Brunswick County.

Survivors include his beloved wife, Audrey Lynne Elderdice Thompson of the home; children, Kenley Elise Thompson of the home, Cheyenne Elise Wallace Thompson of the home, Jean Kelly Thompson of Whiteville, Sandra Boyter (Scott) of Loris, SC, Courtney Langlo (Arthur) of Garden City, SC, Kenneth Rivenbark (Karen) of Tabor City; seven grandchildren, Brad Boyter, Tyler Boyter, Hannah Langlo, Seth Rivenbark, Sarah Rivenbark, Reid Rivenbark, Lexi Suggs, Blake Thompson; aunt & uncle, David Kenneth Green & Vivian Nobles Green.
