Age 95, of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Bill passed away on July 16, 2018. He was the beloved husband of Mary Paiano Stein (deceased, 1980) and loving companion of Jean Shumacher. He is the beloved father of Barbara Snyder and Kathie (Steve) Villalpando; beloved brother of the late Louise Summers, the late Irene Fameli, the late Alice Stein and the late Patricia Stein; beloved grandfather of Lisa Snyder Cebulash, Lori (Chris) Stanley, Todd Snyder, Leslie Snyder and Victoria Villalpando.

Bill is also survived by many nieces and nephews who he loved dearly. Born on September 25, 1922, he was the son of the late Alphonse and Alice Ryan Stein. Bill served honorably in the United States Army from 1940-1945 and spent many years fighting for our country: first in Panama for two years, and in World War II he fought in Germany, France, and Belgium.

Upon his discharge, he returned to Pittsburgh where he resided until his death. He was an avid sports fan and loved his Pirates, Steelers, and Penguins. He attended many games at Forbes Field and Three Rivers Stadium and could recite sports statistics better than most sportscasters.

He loved to read almost as much as he loved to play cards. In the early 80’s, he developed a love for ballroom and line dancing. Friends received at Wolfe Memorial, LLC, 3604 Greensburg Pike, Pittsburgh, PA 15221, on Wednesday from 2-4 and 7-9pm.

Mass of Christian Burial at St. John Fisher Church on Thursday at 10 a.m. Interment in Mount Carmel Cemetery.
