William Loren Harper December 01, 1941 – January 01, 2019 Share this obituary Send Flowers View/Sign Guest Book William Loren Harper, MASTER SARGENT, USAF, RET. , AGE 77, of Strasburg, VA passed away Tuesday, January 1, 2019 at Shenandoah Memorial Hospital, Woodstock, VA. A memorial service for Mr. Harper will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, January 12, 2019 at the Meadow Mills Church of the Brethren in Middletown, VA with Pastors Fred Mauck and Larry Miller officiating.

Mr. Harper will be laid to rest at a later date. Mr. Harper was born in Kansas City, Missouri on December 1, 1941 the son of the late Ida Viola and William Henry Harper. William was a U.S. Air Force veteran having several commendations to include Small Arms Expert Marksmanship Ribbon, Non Commissioned Officers, Academy Graduate Ribbon, Army Good Conduct Medal, Air Force Longevity Service Medal with four devices, National Defense Service Metal, Air Force Presidential Unit Citation with one device, Air Force Outstanding Valt Award, and Flight Simulator Operator.

He served 27 years with the Air Force. After retiring from the Air Force He was employed as a high tech engineer. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a sister, Sharon Koanea Maurer and two brothers, Ellis Harper and Richard Harper.

Survivors include his wife, Gartha; children, William Harper, II of Strasburg, VA and Tonya Smoot of Winchester, VA; four step-children, Toni Coffey of Winchester, VA, Thomas Coffey, Jr. of Fairfax, VA, Patrick Coffey of Front Royal, VA, and Shelia Shanholtz of Toms Brook, VA; his grandchildren, Casey Harper, Kaylee Harper both of California, William Harper, III, Sky Coffey, Jadon Shanholtz, Hannah Coffey, and Jeffrey Coffey; a sister, Rena May and one brother, Shawn Harper of Cheyenne, Wyoming.
