Of the Wisconsin Veterans Home, age 91, passed away on Thursday, February 28, 2019. He was born in Milwaukee on June 29, 1927 to the late William and Eva (Pollich) Ortin. He met his future wife, Geraldine “Geri” Schrank when he was 14 and she was 13 and married her on March 12, 1947.

They were married for 69 years and 9 months. Bill is a WWII Navy Veteran. His nicknames were “Wild Bill”, “Snortin Ortin” and “Overtime Ortin”.

While raising 5 children Bill worked hard for Barry Transfer and Cartige as a Truck Driver. He received the State Driver of the year award twice and an award for 35 years accident free. He was also active with the Teamsters Local 200, where he served as a Union Official.

He retired when he was 62 and then dedicated the rest of his life to caring for his wife until she passed on to Eternity December 28, 2016, at which time he became a resident of the Wisconsin Veterans Home. He will be sadly missed by his son: Bill (Linda) and their children: Lori, Scott (Katie), Krista (Dean), Tim (Jasmine); great grandchildren Josh, Haley (Dylan), Amanda, Michael, Matthew, Bryce, Alyssa, Zachary, Luke, Everett. Daughter: Debbie (Jim) and their children: Marcus (Cookie), Vanessa, Janel; great grandchildren: Anthony, Kyale, Vivian, Kaeden, Caleb, Maya.

Son: David (Andrea) and their children: Jamie, Jennifer (Jason), Hubert (Elizabeth); great grandchildren Keshia, Kessiah, Kenaan, MaKenna, Alivia, Sloan & Enzo; great great grandchild: Kinsley, Daughter: (preceded him in death) Sandra (Mark); and their children: Paul (Casey), John; great grandchildren Ethan, Mary, George, Trenton, Lily. Daughter: Annie (Matt) and their children: Katelyn (Austin), Andrew (Abby), BreAnna and Anaika; great grandchildren: Theodore & Alaythia. Brother: Donald, other relatives and friends.

In addition to his parents and daughter he was preceded in death by siblings, Loraine, Richard. The Funeral Service will be on Sunday, March 10, 2019 at 1 p.m. at the Maple Crest Funeral Home. The visitation will be on Sunday at the funeral home from 11 a.m. until the time of the service.

Burial will be in the Central Wisconsin Veterans Memorial Cemetery.
