William Otis Harris, Jr., 79, of Fairmont, passed away Wednesday afternoon, March 28, 2018 in Hospice Care at JW Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown. He was born July 19, 1938 in Richmond, VA, the only child of the late William Otis Harris, Sr., and the late Bessie Stacia Stowe Harris. Bill was a member of Grace Lutheran Church in Fairmont, and a proud veteran of the United States Navy, having served as a Corpsman.

He was a member of the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks Fairmont Lodge #294, and a former board member of the Marion County Senior Center. His hobbies included aviation, boating, motorcycles, cars and restoring computers. Survivors include his wife of nearly 60 years, Ruth Ann Burkhart Harris, whom he married June 14, 1958 in Towson, MD; two daughters, Cynthia James and her husband Joseph of Parsonsburg, MD, and Susan Scarbro and her husband Greg of Fairmont; and two granddaughters, Hannah Scarbro of Barboursville, WV and Kathryn Scarbro of Fairmont.

The family requests that in lieu of flowers, contributions in Bill’s memory please be made to Grace Lutheran Church, 300 Gaston Ave. , Fairmont, WV 26554. A memorial service to honor Bill’s life and legacy will be held at Grace Lutheran Church in Fairmont, on Saturday April 7, 2018 at 2:00 PM, officiated by Pastor Matt Holbert.

The service will be followed by a time of visitation and fellowship from 2:30 – 4:00 PM. Professional services are being provided to the family with the guidance of Smith Funeral & Cremation Care, 108 Holland Ave. , Morgantown.
