William R. Cossey Sr., 71, of South Bend, passed away early Wednesday morning, March 27, 2019 in his residence. William was born February 12, 1948 in Florence, Alabama, to the late Hershel and Rachel (Hayes) Cossey. He graduated from Clay High School in 1967.

He married Debra Cox on September 11, 1982 in Mishawaka, and she survives. William was a heavy equipment operator for many years. He loved running a backhoe and enjoyed working on antique cars.

He was a great husband, father and Papa and will be missed by many. Surviving is his wife of thirty-six years, Debra Cossey of South Bend; daughter, Stevye (Randy Starkey) Cossey of Dowagiac, Michigan; three grandchildren, Makayla R. Starkey, Valen N. Starkey and Vasen R. Starkey. Also surviving is a nephew, Nicholas O. Cox of South Bend.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Jessie D. Cossey. The family would like to give a big thank you to Heartland Hospice for the services you provided, even though it was only for a few hours, you were wonderful. No services are planned at this time.
