William S. “Bill” Denison, age 86, of Hart, passed away on Thursday, December 27, 2018 in Ludington. He was born August 28, 1932 in Henderson County, Tennessee to William Edward Dennison and Sudie Mae (Miller) Dennison. Bill served with the U.S. Army in Germany from 1953 to 1955 during the Korean War.

After his military service, he moved to Michigan seeking work. He lived in Shelby for two years before settling in Hart. He married Betty Sue Hunley on February 12, 1956.

Bill was employed at Genesco (Whitehall Leather Company) for forty years, retiring in 1995. After retirement he did some farm work and enjoyed serving as the crossing guard on State Street for thirteen years from 2001 to 2014. He was known for his beautiful yard, his flowers, and his garden.

He enjoyed deer hunting and fishing. Some of his favorite pastimes were being with friends at McDonalds in the evenings and sitting on his porch talking to his brother and feeding the birds. Bill enjoyed tinkering with cars and snowblowers.

He also enjoyed snowblowing and helping neighbors. He was affliated with the Hart Wesleyan Church. He was preceded in death by his wife, Betty on August 26, 2005.

He is survived by his children, William “Stan” (Sherill) Denison, Jim (Patti) Denison and Cindy Churchill; his grandchildren, Nicholas Bies (and Jessi), Kristen (Johan) Franz, Kurt (Robyn) Denison, Daniel Churchill, Shayley Denison and Shilo Denison; great-grandchildren, Triniti Bies, Victoria Bies, Skye Bies, Madilyn Franz, Allie Jo Bies and Nicholas Bies; his brother, Carl (Claire) Dennison; sisters, Katherine (Wayne) Davey, and Fay (Bill) Wells; brothers-in-law, Gordy VanderLaan and Glen Gleason; sister-in-law, Judy Dennison and many nieces and nephews. He was also preceded in death by his parents, his brothers, Robert, H.E. and Charlie Dennison; his sisters, Ann Blohm, Linda VanderLaan and Sally Gleason, and his son-in-law, Charlie Churchill. Visitation is Friday, January 4th, 6-8 pm at Harris Funeral Home in Shelby.

The funeral service will be held Saturday, January 5th, 11 am at Hart Wesleyan Church with Pastor Bob Gray officiating. Interment will be in Hart Cemetery. Please consider Hart Wesleyan Church as a memorial.
