William “Terry” Osborne November 11, 1937 to September 2, 2018 Terry grabbed the fishing pole, loaded his boat and fell back into the arms of the love of his life Jackie on September 2, 2018, right where he wanted to be. I am damn sure they took a swig of coffee and smoked a cig together. We all hated that smell of smoke, but it will be dearly missed and we will wonder why we won’t have to roll down our windows to air ourselves out when we leave his home anymore.
That ornery old bugger had a way with people. He could talk to anyone that would listen. Terry could go down to Maverick and honk his horn and it was like he had his own delivery service as if he were pulling up to a sonic.
They knew just how to make his coffee and get his pack of cigarettes. Anyone could go down to Maverick to buy his cigarettes and tell them it was for Terry and they would know what cigs to hand you. Hell, he had food delivered by making phone calls to his favorite restaurants.
His best buddy Gene would pick him up for lunch every Friday to eat prime rib dinner, his favorite meal, and sometimes his only one for the day. Terry was little but he frightened many people, he had little man syndrome and that’s where his nickname Rump (Rumpelstiltskin) came from. “Put me down, put me down” was what he told a passenger from one of his many bus drives as he tried to escort him off the bus for not following the rules.
Rump was a man of many trades, he shoed horses for many years as a second income and did a hell of a job. Driving buses was one of his greatest joys. He loved everyone he met, but sadly it ended in a tragic bus accident that gave him a lot of depression.
He owned a landscaping business and recruited his own family. The grandkids would all take turns mowing different properties, he would show up to their houses with the trailer all loaded ready to go. His trusty rusty equipment would always start; our mowers had red bailing twine to hold the lever up.
Terry loved to spray those weeds, he could mix any concoction and you would know your weeds weren’t coming back. Terry retired from Hercules where he worked as a Quality Control Tech for many years. His work ethic opened opportunities for many family and friends.
If you needed a job he was the man to go to, he could get you a position anywhere even if he hadn’t worked there. Co-workers at Cabela’s called him the “Keebler Elf”. He loved working in the marine department to teach and sell any and all fishing products.
One of his friends knew just how to make him irritated and had his grandson prank call him while he was at work one day and posted it to Youtube. When Terry came home he was quite upset until he watched the video with us called the “Angry Cabela’s Man”. Diddy Diddy Bompa was what the grandkids called him.
Any kid that walked into his home was considered his own. Something about him made the kids love him and feel welcome enough to know he had a revolving door. The great grandkids brought him his greatest joy, no matter where you went he would ask where they were.
Terry’s home welcomed many family members and he would give anyone the shirt off his back. He truly knew what was most important. His homemade rolls and loaves of bread were a delicacy and a family favorite.
Although there was never actually a secret ingredient we could find, we couldn’t get enough or make them taste the same. Terry will be missed by so many, he was surrounded by people that loved his fishing guts. He never ceased to amaze you with his quirks, silliness, lies, and tricks he would play.
Terry married the love of his life, Jacklyn Oakeson Osborne on September 22, 1962. He was survived by his two children, Jill Singleton (Troy Davis), Steve (Chris) Osborne, four grandkids Madison (Tom) Kerekes, KayDee (Kade) Carter, Megan (Paul) Howard, and Cole Osborne (Brandee), five great grandkids Keyli, Ella, Kapri, Owen, and Lucy. Preceded in death by dad Charles and mom LaPreal, three sisters Wilma, Beth, and Maxine and the love of his life Jackie.
Funeral services will be held on Friday September 7th, 2018 at LDS Stake Center 9894 S. 2700 W. South Jordan, UT. Viewing will be held from 10:30 to 11:30, services will follow at 12:00 pm. Terry’s interment will be at Camp Williams 17111 S 1700 W, Bluffdale, UT.
