William T. P. Moore, Jr., a beloved husband, father, and grandfather, passed away on May 11, 2019. Born on April 15, 1942, in Poquoson, Virginia, Bill graduated from Poquoson High School in 1960. He married his high school sweetheart, Glenda Phillips, in 1961, and they shared almost 58 years of family, travel, and love.

Bill loved life. He persistently engaged in the everyday activities of life such as caring for and enjoying the company of his family and friends. He rarely rested from activity but rather enjoyed to spend his time involved in as much as he could during any given day.

Bill graduated from Randolph-Macon College in 1964 and later received a Master’s from the College of William and Mary in Computational Operations Research. Bill retired from civil service in 2000, where he worked as a Mathematician (Ft. Eustis) and Operations Research Analyst (Langley Air Force Base).

He was an avid long distance runner, competing in 37 marathons and logging over 58,000 miles in his lifetime. He competed in the Boston Marathon four times and ran in the Virginia Beach Shamrock for 25 consecutive years. When his running days were coming to a close he took up golfing at the James River Country Club.

He thoroughly loved meeting new people and socializing at the Club. Some of his greatest pleasures were boating, fishing, clamming, and oystering with his lifetime buddy, Fay Firman. He was famous and very popular with his contribution of fried oysters at family holiday celebrations.

He also volunteered with the Poquoson Lions Club. He was preceded in death by his parents, William T.P. Moore, Sr., and Pearle P. Moore. Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 58 years, Glenda; daughter Pam Hornsby and her husband Steven; grandson, Reed Hornsby and his wife Lizz; granddaughter, Ellen Hornsby and her fiancé David Gray; son, T. Glenn Moore and his wife Lesley; granddaughters, Katelyn and Allyson Moore; brother, Alfred Moore and his wife Judy; sister, Evlyn Connery and her husband Terry.

A memorial service will be held at Tabernacle United Methodist Church Saturday, May 18 at 11 AM led by Rev. Jeff Cannon with a reception to follow at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Tabernacle UMC at 831 Poquoson Avenue, Poquoson, Virginia 23662.
