William W. (Bill) Moyer, 91, of Montague, was born April 24, 1926 in Kissimmee, Fla. , the third of four children of Clarence and Lucy Moyer. At the age of seven, he moved with his family from Toledo, Oh.

to Grand Rapids, Mich. For much of the next half century, he would reside in the family home at 342 Aurora Street in Grand Rapids. Bill graduated from Grand Rapids South High School in 1944, and proudly served his country in World War II.

Following his honorable discharge from the U.S. Army, Bill earned a business degree from the University of Pennsylvania’s prestigious Wharton School of Business. He enjoyed a decades-long business career as an executive with steel fabricator Haven-Busch in Grand Rapids. During his work years, he owned a lakefront weekend cottage in Oceana County.

Following his early-1980s retirement, Bill moved to a new, year-round house on the lakefront near Montague, and delivered countless hours of service as a volunteer with the Oceana County Historical and Genealogical Society in Hart. In his free time, Bill enjoyed playing golf. Having served as a carpenter’s assistant while working his way through college, he was also an expert carpenter who in the 1960s built the addition to his lakefront weekend cottage almost single-handedly.

Over the course of his long life, Bill made countless friends – from classmates to colleagues, co-volunteers to caretakers – all of whom adored him. In addition to his parents, Bill was preceded in death by his brother Jack Moyer and sisters Mary Ribbens and Grace Steele, his brothers-in-law Anthony Ribbens and Raymond Steele and his nephew Terrence Moyer. Bill is survived by sister-in-law Bernice Moyer, nieces Jill Conway and Cynthia Steele, and nephews John Moyer, James Moyer and Jeff Steele.

Date and time of memorial service to be announced in the near future on this website. Donations made to the Oceana County Historical and Genealogical Society, 114 S Dryden Street, Hart, MI 49420.
