Willie Edward “Ed” Taylor, 89, a resident of the Sneads Grove Community in Laurel Hill, left his earthly home to receive his heavenly welcome on Monday, December 10, 2018. A funeral service will be 3:00 p.m. Thursday, December 13, 2018 at the McDougald Funeral Home Bumgarner Chapel, officiated by Rev. Randall Snead.

Burial will follow in Hillside Memorial Park. Visitation will be 1:30 – 3:00 p.m. at the funeral home prior to the service. Born April 27, 1929 in Scotland County, he was a son of the late Pete and Lessie Brigman Taylor.

Mr. Taylor’s career spanned many years working with the North Carolina Department of Transportation and later with Scotland Oil Company. For years he faithfully supported and attended the Church of God of Prophecy in Raeford. He believed in the power of prayer.

Being raised on a farm and with decades of growing his own vegetables, Mr. Taylor mastered the art of farming. The roaring sound of his old FARMALL tractor and the smell of freshly tilled soil made a great day for him. In his later years, he discovered the joy of fishing and found it to be a special time with friends.

He loved life, enjoyed working with his hands and cherished his family. Survivors include his wife of 66 years, Doris Taylor of the home; his children, Melody Snead and husband Randall, Terry and wife Elizabeth, all of Laurel Hill. He was “Papa” to five grandchildren, Timothy Snead and wife Rebekah, Philip Snead, Luke Taylor, Hannah Taylor and Thomas Taylor; and brother, Howard Taylor of Statesville.

He was preceded in death by his son, Edward Garrett Taylor and brothers, Harry Taylor, Harvey Taylor, Hervy Taylor and Ernest Taylor. Memorials may be made to: Scotland Regional Hospice, PO Box 1033, Laurinburg, NC 28353 or Church of God of Prophecy, 913 W. Prospect Rd. , Raeford, NC 28376.
