Woodrow Johnson March 18, 1933 – May 23, 2019 Share this obituary Send Flowers Sign Guestbook| Send Sympathy Card Mr. Woodrow Johnson, son the late of Purdy Johnson, Sr and Mrs. Virginia Warley Johnson was born on March 18, 1933 in Pinewood, SC. He received his education in Clarendon County educational system(New Hope School). At an early age, he joined New Hope AME Church, where his belief and love for God was formulated and developed.

He served as Church Treasurer, member of Steward and Trustee Board, Church Choir, Usher Board and served as a Class Leader. He was a member of the Mason Silver Lodge #35 PHA and New Hope Chapter 38, who recognized his many years of services. “Boss”, as he was affectionately called by many, was born with a peaceful demeanor, that attracted everyone he met.

He was a loving husband, father, father-in-law, grandfather, brother, uncle, and devoted friend. He was employed by Georgia pacific Corporation and retired from Campbell Soup Company Sumter, SC. Woodrow was also a devoted farmer and animal lover.

On Thursday, May 23, 2019, he entered eternal rest at National Healthcare, Sumter SC. Woodrow passing has left a void in the lives of many whom he loved and cherished. Left to cherish precious memories are his beloved wife of 60 years, Hattie Louise Brunson Johnson of the home,three children, Deborah L. Johnson, Pinewood, SC, Marvin Johnson, Pinewood SC, and Gwendolyn (Taft Jr) Gaymon of Sumter, SC, one grandchild Taft TerrellGaymon.

Two sisters, Evelyn Johnson, Pinewood, SC and Gardenia Green, Rimini, SC, five sister -in-laws, Cleo Holmes Johnson, Sumter, SC, Frances(George) Wilson, Bronx, NY, Barbara (Larry) Brown, Sumter, SC, Dorothy (Willie Henry) Richardson, Sumter, SC and Thelma Brunson, Pinewood, SC. Six brother in-laws Larry (Helen) Brunson, Dalzell, SC, Bobby (Deborah) Brunson, Columbia, SC, Elijah Brunson, Sumter, SC, Ronald Brunson, Sumter, SC, Dickie (Jennifer) Brunson, Sumter, SC, and Kenneth(Lawanda) Brunson, Sumter, SC. Woodrow shared a special bond with those who assisted him during his illness: Deborah Nesbitt, Mackey (Adriane) Deschamps, Patricia (Wesley) Durant, Jackie Caudle, Sharon (Alex) Lesane, Belinda (Isaac) Muldrow, his caregivers and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives and friends.
