Yvonne Herron Illar the devoted wife of the late Steve Illar for 69 years passed away on June 23, 2018. She was born on August 29, 1926 in Ellsworth, PA and was the third child of William Paul Herron and Bridget Beatrice Roach. Her two older brothers, William Paul Herron II and Victor Lawrence Herron preceded her in death.

She also had three older half-sisters from her mother’s first marriage; Winifred Kennedy Mehalic, Mary Olive Kennedy Milby, and Audrey Kennedy Hecht. Yvonne graduated Ellsworth High School in 1945 and worked for the Corning Glass Works company in Charleroi, PA where she made bowls and coffee mugs for the US Navy in support of the World War II war effort. She married Steve Illar on April 5, 1947.

Her daughter Stephanie was born in 1948. In 1956, she moved to State College, PA to support her family as her husband was enrolled at the Pennsylvania State University. She worked full time at the J&L Barbeque until her husband graduated and moved the family to Adelphi, MD in 1958.

Her son David was born in 1959. Yvonne and her family moved to Beltsville, MD in 1962 and she became a full time homemaker. She was a Beltsville resident for over 54 years.

She moved to assisted living in Ellicott City, MD in 2016. She was an original member of the Beltsville United Presbyterian Church and then the Laurel Presbyterian Church after the Beltsville church was dissolved. She was a member of the Red Hat Society and was active in the Young at Heart Senior club at the Beltsville Recreation Center.

During her life she enjoyed travelling and attending her grandchildren’s school and sporting events. Her travels took her to Ireland, Scotland, England, Hawaii, and cruises in the Caribbean. She also enjoyed domestic travels to softball tournaments with her husband’s senior softball team and to attend college football bowl games.

She was a member of the Maryland Terrapin Club and held Maryland Football season tickets for over 30 years. She is survived by her children and their spouses; Stephanie Vessel (Gary) of Nicholasville, KY and David Illar (Maureen) of Ellicott City, MD. Her loving grandchildren include Kevin Vessel (Katie), Michelle Illar Kinnally (Jack), and Colin Illar.

Survivors also include nine nieces and eight nephews and their extended families.
