Zofia “Sophie” (Warunek) Jasiel, 87, of Indian Orchard, died unexpectedly on Sunday, May 20, 2018, surrounded by her family at the Baystate Medical Center in Springfield. Born in Hucisko, Poland on Sept. 11, 1930, she was the daughter of the late Anthony and Maria Warunek.

Sophie came to this country in the early 1960’s and had lived in the Indian Orchard section of Springfield for more than 50 years. She previously worked in packaging for the Hanson Group. Sophie enjoyed working in her flower beds and going to flea markets.

The wife of the late Frank Jasiel who died in 2015, Sophie is survived by her two sons, Richard Jasiel and John Jasiel and his wife Alicja, all of Indian Orchard. She also leaves her four beloved grandchildren, Joshua, Brandon, Michelle and Nicholas as well as nieces and nephews in Poland. Funeral Services for Sophie will be on Saturday, May 26, with a Calling Hour from 9:30am-10:30am at Nowak Funeral & Cremation Services, 15 Ludlow Ave.

, Springfield followed by a Funeral Mass at Immaculate Conception Church at 11am. Burial will follow in St. Aloysius Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the charity of the donor’s choice.
