Obituary for Alan B. Cohen Alan B. Cohen passed away peacefully at his home in Hollywood, Florida on October 11, 2018 at the age of 84 surrounded by his wife Sarah Jane, son Matthew, and daughter Iris. Alan is survived by his wife Sarah Jane, daughter Iris D. Cohen of Ft. Lauderdale, son Matthew (and wife Karen) grandchildren Stephen and Amanda Cohen, great-grandchildren Isabella Cohen and Riley Pettit.
of Seaford, New York, sister Sheila Hollender, nephew James Hollender and niece Amy Fischelson, and numerous cousins, great and grand nieces and nephews in New York, New Jersey, and other states. Alan (Big Al) was born on February 19, 1934 in Brooklyn, NY to Irving and Ida Cohen. He graduated from Erasmus High School in Brooklyn, and attended Kings College.
Alan was a veteran of the Unites States Army, in the Korean war, in the Army’s 10th Mountain Division in the Ski Patrol. After the war, he met and married Sarah Jane Danzer after a 3-month whirlwind romance, they were married for 61 years. Alan loved cars, and had his lifelong career in the auto parts industry, working for and owning his own auto parts stores in Brooklyn and Queens, NY.
In 1991, Al & Sarah Jane moved down to Hollywood, Florida for their retirement. He enjoyed being a husband, father, brother, grandfather and great-grandfather. In his retirement, Alan & Sarah Jane would travel the United states – driving from Florida to California and New York, visiting their family and friends and visiting National Parks.
They also became weekend vendors, selling items at various flea markets in Hollywood and Fort Myers, Florida. Alan was a strong, man’s man who loved guns, fishing, dining out, movies, all cars- new, racing, classic cars, casino’s and Black Jack. He was very generous and always picked up every check, and paid for his children college education.

A funeral is scheduled for Sunday, October 14, 2018 at 12:00 noon at Levitt-Weinstein – Beth David 3201 N 72nd Ave. Hollywood, Florida 33024 with a reception to follow at 1:30 pm at Oxford Towers Recreation Room. 1501 S. Ocean Dr. Hollywood, FL 33019.
Paid – Public Parking Lot at Summit parking lot at Bouanville Terrace and S. Surf Rd. 1 block north of Oxford towers. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Alan’s life.
