Al Himegarner, 81, Leawood, KS, passed away Friday, November 30th, 2018. A native of Canton, IL, Al was the son of Albert and Mary Himegarner. He attended Blackburn College and then graduated with bachelor and master degrees from UMKC.

He was a member of Delta Chi fraternity. After Al’s marriage to Lani Nichols in 1959, he served six years in the Air Force Reserve. For ten years Al worked for Saint Joseph’s Hospital in Marshfield, Wisconsin.

In 1981 he was hired by Saint Luke’s Hospital System and in 2005 he retired as senior vice –president of Human Res. During his career Al was active in many community and professional organizations and often served as president of these groups. In retirement he served on his church’s session, as a Stephen Minister, and as a volunteer at Saint Luke’s Hospice House.

Al is survived by his wife, Janice of 14 years, his children: Katie Richardson (Doug) and Michael Himegarner (Angela); his step-children: DeAnn Hanson (Dave) and David Dillon (Rebecca); eleven grandchildren, two great-grandsons, and several brothers and sisters-in-law. He was predeceased by his parents and his wife Lani. Al will be deeply missed by his family, countless friends, and former colleagues who admired him for his life of service, his dedication to his profession, his community leadership, his religious faith, his sense of humor, and his deep love for his family.

Visitation will be held Thursday, December 6th from 6-8pm at the Johnson County Funeral Chapel, 11200 Metcalf A memorial service will be held at John Knox Kirk Presbyterian Church at 2:00 pm Friday December 7th , following a private burial. In lieu of flowers the family request that donations be made to the Leukemia/Lymphoma Foundation.
