Obituary for Albert L Penn ALBERT L. PENN, 94 Missionary, Educator LAKELAND – Mr. Albert L. Penn, 94, of Country Oaks in Lakeland joined his wife Thelma in Heaven on Tuesday September 4, 2018. He was born February 24, 1924 in Delaware, OH and moved to Lakeland in Dec. 1985 from Wooster, OH.
He was an Agriculture and Spanish teacher, Principal, and Agriculture Supervisor at the high school level. In addition, he was on faculty for Career and Technical education at Kent State University before retiring with over 40 years in education. Albert spent 7 years as a missionary with his wife in Costa Rica and Honduras.
Albert attended Victory Church. He was a life member of the Ohio State University Alumni Association, Life member of OEA/NEA, a member of the Commanders Club of the Disabled American Veterans, a former member of the All Ohio eMedina Kiwanis Internet Club. As a World War II Veteran, he received a Purple Heart while serving in combat on Okinawa.
He was also involved in the community of Country Oaks with the annual Christmas display that was set-up throughout the community. The theme was “Come to Bethlehem”. Albert and his wife Thelma, who preceded him in death in 2007, designed the characters and painted the displays.
Thousands of local residents toured the display each holiday season. He is survived by sons, Alan Penn and wife Jeri of Medina, OH, Michael Penn and wife Kathy of Nashville, TN, Dr. Mark Penn and wife Becky of Summerlin, NV; Granddaughters, Jody and husband James, Janelle and husband Nathan, Laura and husband Alex, and Joanna and husband Omara; Grandsons, Randy and partner Jen , Jonathan and wife Colleen, David and wife Samantha, Matthew and wife Emily, and Michael and wife Erin; Great Grandsons, Prestin, Pierce, Ian. William, Trey, Joshua, Daniel, Lincoln, and Joseph; Great Granddaughters, Peytyn, Ava, Niah, Victoria, Claire, Selah, Alexandra, Sophia and Lydia.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Victory Church Senior Care Group. A visitation will be held from 10:00am – 11:00am on Friday, September 7, 2018 at the Gentry-Morrison Funeral Home, 3350 Mall Hill Dr. Lakeland, FL, with the funeral services following at 11:00 am in the funeral home chapel. Burial, where he will join his wife Thelma, will be at the Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell, FL.
