OBITUARY Alfred Nardini October 24, 1932 – January 26, 2019 Alfred Lionel Nardini Jr. passed away on Friday, January 25, 2019, at age 86. A longtime Scituate resident, Alfred was born at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston on October 24, 1932, to Alfred Sr. and Bernice (MacKillop) Nardini. His childhood was spent in Newton and, later, Boston.

He was a proud graduate of St. John’s Prep in Danvers in 1951, and later attended Tufts University, where he majored in economics and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1955. At Tufts, Alfred was actively involved in athletics, playing four years of varsity football and baseball and excelling at both. After graduation, he became a dedicated member of the Tufts Jumbo Club, which helped support the school sports he loved.

Alfred served in the United States Army, where he earned the rank of First Lieutenant before being discharged honorably in 1959. In 1968, he married the love of his life, Jean Marie Aquino, and together they had two sons, Trevor MacKillop Nardini and Brett Aquino Nardini. The family moved to Scituate in 1973, where Alfred and Jean built a strong network of lifelong friends.

Alfred’s professional career in Boston’s finance community spanned over 30 years, during which he was a widely respected Institutional Equity Sales Trader at firms including: Smith Barney, Drexel Burnham Lambert, The Chicago Corporation, and ABN AMRO. He was a managing director and considered part of the “old network” that helped establish the Boston institutional community in the 1980s, and an active member of the Boston Securities Traders Association (BSTA) community until his retirement in 2000. Alfred’s life was distinguished by an outsized commitment to family, friends, and youth sports.

Above all else was his marriage to Jean, to whom he was deeply devoted. Next were ‘my boys,’ to whom he granted equal generosity and support throughout their many endeavors, particularly their education. Alfred was committed to his lifelong friendships with his classmates from St. John’s and Tufts, the Boston financial community, and his neighbors and friends in Scituate.

Perhaps his biggest personal passion was coaching youth sports, especially football and baseball. He and Jean were actively involved in the Scituate Pop Warner and Little League programs for many years. In addition, Alfred was an ardent supporter of the Gridiron Club of Greater Boston and served as its President from 1997 to 1998.

Alfred is survived by his sons Trevor and Brett, his daughter-in-law Erika, his grandchildren Cannon Gleason Nardini and Turin Jean Nardini, his sister Assunta (Sue) Dunn, her family, and the many members of his extended family. Alfred will be remembered for his passion, his commitment, his generosity, his friendships, and, of course, his booming voice. Calling hours will be held from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. on Friday, February 1, 2019, at the Richardson-Gaffney Funeral Home, 382 First Parish Rd.

, Scituate. A funeral mass and burial will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, February 2, at St. Mary’s of the Nativity at 1 Kent St., Scituate.
