Alfreda M. Pottle 1917 – 2018 WINTHROP – Alfreda M. Pottle, 100, died Tuesday July 17, 2018 just short of her 101st birthday, at Heritage Rehabilitation in Winthrop. Alfreda was born Sept. 13, 1917 in Auburn, the daughter of Frank and Florence (Bowman) Dunton.

She grew up in Belfast, graduating from Belfast High School. During World War II, she worked at Bath Iron Works. After the war, she worked for many years at Commonwealth Shoe as a fancy stitcher.

Alfreda was married to Paul Pottle, who died in 2003. For many years, they wintered in Florida. Mrs. Pottle enjoyed quilting, playing card games, including Skip-Bo, and swimming.

In her years in Florida, she enjoyed shuffleboard and was very competitive at all the games she played. She enjoyed seafood and especially, pie. She was predeceased by her husband, Paul; her son, Leonard; and all of her siblings.

She is survived by her sons, David Pottle and his wife, Nancy, of West Gardiner, Richard Pottle and his wife, Joyce, of Alabama and Roger Pottle and his wife, Karen, of West Gardiner; her daughter, Beatrice Fuller and her husband, John, of Florida; a special granddaughter, Pamela Hall, of West Gardiner as well as 13 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren. Relatives and friends may visit at Staples Funeral Home, 53 Brunswick Avenue, Gardiner, Friday 5-7 p.m. A funeral service will be held at the Grace Community Chapel, Saturday July 21, 2018 at 1 p.m. Burial will follow at the Oak Grove Cemetery in Gardiner.
