LITTLE FALLS – Alice C. Hysack, 90, formerly of Willow Street, Little Falls, passed away peacefully on Friday morning, October 19, 2018, with her family at her side. She had most recently been a resident at Alpine Rehabilitation and Nursing Center since January 2017. Born in Little Falls on June 11, 1928, she was the daughter of the late John and Mary (Carrig) Gardinier.
She was a graduate of the former St. Mary’s Academy. Alice had fond memories of growing up on the Gardinier family farm in the Town of Danube, especially time spent with her five brothers and sisters. As a child, she particularly enjoyed traveling with her sisters on the train to visit their aunts in Hartford, Connecticut; memories which she spoke of often.
On July 3, 1954, she was united in marriage to Joseph Hysack at St. Mary’s Church in Little Falls. Mr. Hysack predeceased her on February 25, 2010, after 55 years of marriage. She was employed by New York Telephone Company, of Little Falls, Herkimer, and New Hartford, for over 40 years.
She was a member of the St. Johnsville and Oppenheim senior citizens, as well as the Telephone Pioneers of America, where she enjoyed sharing stories of working the switchboards with her coworkers. A great cook, there was never an empty stomach in her house and family always looked forward to holiday pot roasts and Christmas cookies. Alice cherished the summer months, as many were spent tending to her garden and traveling to Maine and Cape Cod with her grandchildren.
Prone to contagious laughter, friends and family will most miss her special sense of humor. She is survived by a son, Thomas Hysack, and his wife, Deb, of Omaha, NE; two daughters, Mary Harris, and her husband, Andrew, and Michelle Billings, and her husband, Fred, both of Little Falls; five grandchildren, A. Richard and Allison Harris, Hannah and Christopher Hysack, and Katie Billings; and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by three brothers; John, Richard, and Robert (Burrell) Gardinier; and two sisters, Elizabeth Rich and Mary Margaret Korce.
A devoted wife, mother, and grandmother, she dependably put the needs of her family ahead of herself and she will always hold a special place in our hearts. Friends and family are invited to attend funeral services on Tuesday, October 23, 2018, at 11:00 am, from the Holy Family Parish Church, Little Falls, NY, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by the Rev. Terrance Healy.
Interment will take place in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Town of Herkimer, NY. In accordance with her wishes, there will be no public calling hours. Arrangements are by the Chapman-Moser Funeral Home, Inc., 42 N. Ann Street, Little Falls, NY.
It is the wish of the family in lieu of flowers that contributions in memory of Mrs. Hysack be considered to the Holy Family Parish Church, 763 E. Main Sr., Little Falls, NY 13365. Envelopes are available at the funeral home for this purpose. Online remembrances at www.
