Alice F. Fay, 96, formerly of Niskayuna, NY peacefully passed away Tuesday, July 3, 2018 at Wesley Health Care Center in Saratoga Springs. Born on November 4, 1921 in Brooklyn, NY, she was the daughter of Kenneth and Agnes (Klovekorn) Hargreaves. Alice was a graduate of Sewanhaka High School in Floral Park, NY and in 1943, graduated from Englewood Hospital Nursing School in Englewood, NJ with an R.N. degree.
On August 24, 1944, Alice became a 2nd Lieutenant in the U.S. Army Nurse Corps. During WWII, she served in the European Theater in England, France, and Germany. Following her discharge in February 1946, Alice worked as a private duty nurse.
On June 25, 1949, she married D. Joseph Fay in Floral Park, NY. During the course of their 52 year marriage, Alice and Joe had many adventures, traveling, working, and raising four children. Alice was later employed for many years as a Nursing Supervisor at the Glendale Nursing Home in Glenville, NY, until her retirement.
After Joe’s death in 2001, Alice moved to Saratoga Springs and resided for her last 8 years at Wesley Health Care Center. She will be remembered as a strong but compassionate woman who cherished her family. She was a loving mother, grandmother, and a devoted caregiver.
Alice was the matriarch of an extensive and eclectic family. She had a knack for keeping lifelong friends and making more wherever she landed. She leaves her children: Anne Parsons (David), Marc Fay, Ellen Fay Jones (Dr. Richard), Edward E.T. Fay (Stacey Phillips); grandchildren: Jessica Snyder, Matt Girtler, James Fay, Zechariah Fay, Nicole Fay, Courtney Clotworthy, Angela Murray (Thomas), Joseph and Alexandra Fay, Graeme Jones (Stevie), Logan, Carter, Quinn Jones, Aiden and Jamie Fay, Cheyenne and Ryleigh Clotworthy and sister Daniella.
Brothers: Thomas (Pat), Jack (Patricia), and Robert (Margaret) Hargreaves; sisters: Jane Ober (Stanley), and Mary Bicklehaupt (Chuck), as well as many nieces and nephews. In addition, her beloved in-laws, Joe Girtler, Sheri Fay and Joyce Fay, who she thought of has her own. The family is forever grateful for the love and care given to Alice during her years on 3 Victoria.
A Memorial Mass will be held at 10:30 am Monday, July 9, 2018 at Notre Dame Visitation Church, 18 Pearl Street, Schuylerville, NY. Rev Martin Fisher will be officiating. Entombment will follow at Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery, 200 Duell Road, Schuylerville, NY.
Calling hours will be held from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm Sunday, July 8, 2018 at Compassionate Funeral Care, Inc., 402 Maple Ave. (Rte 9 and/or Marion Ave. ), Saratoga Springs, NY In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Wesley Health Care Center for nursing education.
