ALLAN’s Obituary Allan W. Hendry of Vero Beach, Florida and Jamestown, Rhode Island died suddenly on March 10, 2019 at his home in Vero Beach Florida. He was a long-time companion of Gail DeRoy. Born in Glasgow Scotland, he was the son of the late William Hendry and the late Bridget “Ruby” Hendry (Docherty).

He was the loving step father of Sonia Anne Cook-Broen (Christopher O’Connor), of Maine, cherished brother of Irene Shergold (Liam McEwan)) of Rhode Island, and devoted brother of the late John Hendry. Allan served six years in the British Royal Navy from 1971 to 1976. He was very proud of his military service to the United Kingdom.

He received a bachelor degree from Basingstoke Technical college in England, worked in engineering in England and France, then emigrated to the United States in 1989 settling in Norwalk, Connecticut. Through the years, Allan held engineering, sales, and management positions for various corporations. He and his partner Gail made their home in Vero Beach Florida and in Jamestown, Rhode Island.

Allan leaves grandchildren Makai Hendry Moody-Broen, Lee Praytor Moody-Broen, nephews Paul Shergold, Allan Shergold (Susan) Frances Shergold, niece Marieanne Shergold, Conlon Lynott. He leaves Anthony Deroy Jr., Allison Taskin, and Aimee Couture. He leaves many close cousins, friends and neighbors all over the world.

Allan Hendry – Always a patriot…. always a friend. A celebration of life will be held at 10AM, Saturday March 16th, 2019 at Strunk Funeral Home 916 17th Street, Vero Beach.

Friends are invited to gather and visit with the family in the funeral home chapel after the service until 12 PM. In lieu of flowers donations as a memorial may be made to Ronald McDonald House Charities of Florida and South Carolina or The Boys and Girls Club of America.
