Allen C. “Al” Swindig, 80, of North Ridgeville, passed away peacefully on Saturday March 23, 2019 at University Hospital in Cleveland. He was born on August 17, 1938 in Cleveland. He had been a resident of North Ridgeville since 1968 and was a 1956 graduate of Parma High School.

Mr. Swindig worked as a diesel mechanic at River Terminal Railway Company in Cleveland for 42 years and retired in 1997. He was the longest serving member in the history of North Ridgeville City Council and served the city for 24 years from 1981 to 2005. Mr. Swindig was a member of Shepherd of the Ridge Lutheran Church in North Ridgeville where he formerly served as an Elder and he was a member of the Elyria Moose Lodge and was currently serving as President of the Golden Moose.

He also belonged to the Elyria Umpire Association and umpired local baseball games for 20 years. Mr. Swindig was also very involved in the North Ridgeville City Baseball Leagues for 30 years and the North Ridgeville Football League for 6 years. He helped to start Cub Scout Pack #132 at Lear North Elementary School in North Ridgeville and served as the Cub Master.

He also enjoyed collecting train sets. Mr. Swindig is survived by: His Wife of 58 years, Virginia (nee Bolton); four sons, Allen C. “Butch” Swindig Jr. (Lucha) of North Ridgeville, Thomas Swindig (Teresa) of Wellington, Jeffrey Swindig (Beth) and Jason Swindig, both of North Ridgeville; a daughter, Regina Garrison (Charles) of Alabama; eight grandchildren, Alexandra Miller (Nick), Martina, Maryah and Shane Swindig, Joseph Salay (Amanda), Amanda Horvatich (Joseph), Craig Bryson and Charlie Garrison; and by six great-grandchildren, including Charlotte Swindig. He was preceded in death by; his parents, Fred and Elvera (nee Pletz) Swindig; a brother, Fred Swindig; and a sister, Marlene Zawadski.

The family will receive friends on Wednesday March 27, 2019 from 4 to 7pm at the Liston Funeral Home, 36403 Center Ridge Rd. , (at Stoney Ridge Rd. ), North Ridgeville.

Members from the Elyria Moose Lodge will conduct a special memorial service on Wednesday at 6:30pm The Funeral Service will be Thursday March 28, 2019 at 10am at the funeral home. Rev. Paul Pater, Pastor of Shepherd of the Ridge Lutheran Church, will officiate.

Burial will be at Fields Cemetery in North Ridgeville. Memorial contributions are suggested to either the American Heart Association or to North Ridgeville Community Care.
