HUGHES–Alma “Lois” Hughes, age 86, of Jacksonville, FL passed away peacefully on Thursday, November 29, 2018. Lois was born in Eastland, Tennessee on September 12, 1932 to John Lee and Ella Elizabeth (Walker) Marlow. Lois was the fifth child of twelve children.

On January 1, 1950 Lois married the love of her life, Virgis Andrew (Bud) Hughes at the age of 17. They spent 63 wonderful years together until his death on May 1, 2013. They were blessed with four children, twelve grandchildren and nineteen great grand children.

Lois and Bud lived in several different places while Bud was serving in the U.S. Navy. Jacksonville was their last duty station and that is where they made their home, raised their children and retired. Jacksonville has been their home since 1963.

Lois was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother and friend. All who met her instantly liked her. She never met a stranger and was always willing to help those in need.

She loved taking care of her family and was lovingly devoted to them. She also enjoyed playing Bingo, making bracelets and other crafts. She was such a special lady and loved by all who had the privilege of knowing her.

She will be missed by all her family and friends. Lois is preceded in death by her parents, her husband Bud and daughter (Roberta Horvath), 3 brothers and 3sisters. She is survived by her son, Rodney Hughes (Sandra), daughters Susan Lewis (Don) and Patty Carter.

Grandchildren: Jimmi-Lou, Erica, Heather, Susan, Andy, Rylan, Rory, Brant , Kelsey, Malise, Malinda, Meredith and 19 great grandchildren and many extended family members and friends. Her time on Earth is over, but she will dwell in our hearts forever. Viewing and visitation will be held from 5:00 pm until 7:00 pm on Monday, December 3, 2018 and Memorial services will be held at 11:00 am on Tuesday, December 4, 2018 at Jacksonville Memory Gardens, 111 Blanding Boulevard, Orange Park, FL 32073.
