Almeda Updike, February 14, 1930 — June 28, 2018

Almeda “Sandy” Updike, age 88, of rural Boscobel passed away on Thursday, June 28, 2018 at her home. She was born February 14, 1930, in Crawford County. She was the daughter of Manley and Esther (White) Miller.

She grew up on farms in Crawford County and always loved the country. As a child she loved fishing on the river bank of the Wisconsin River. She worked as a waitress at Knutson’s Café and later at Linders Market while attending High School in Boscobel.

She married the love of her life, Mahlon Updike on June 15, 1947 at the Boscobel United Methodist Church. They farmed and bought his home farm in Hickory Grove Township. She was very active in her church, helping with Sunday school and Bible School when her children were small.

She also was a member of Guild and Ruth Circle in the church. She loved working on Committees with all the people of the church. In other words, she loved her entire church family.

She did volunteer work at the Senior Meal Site for over 25 years. She loved dancing and playing cards with family and friends. She loved gardening, especially her flowers.

She loved canning and cooking for the family. She loved her family, children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren. She is survived by her children, Leonard Updike of Cassville, Barb (Thomas) Nicholson of Muscoda, Bryce (Debbie) Updike of Woodman, Ron (Sue) Updike of Boscobel, Royce ( Vanessa) Updike of Flat Rock, AL; a daughter-in-law, Judy Updike of Boscobel; 24 grandchildren, 53 great grandchildren and 6 great-great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Mahlon; son, Lavon;, brothers, Buford and Robert; sister Eva and a granddaughter Brenda. Services will be Saturday, July 7, 2018 at 11:00 AM at the Boscobel United Methodist Church; 104 Buchanan St. Boscobel, with Pastor Stan Pegram officiating, inurnment will be at the Boscobel Cemetery. Friends may call on Friday, July 6, 2018 from 3:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the Boscobel United Methodist Church and one hour prior to service time at the church.
