Mrs. Alpha Poe Edwards was born in Lafayette, Alabama, on August 05, 1922, to parents James Daniel and Mittie Tucker Poe. She lived in Opelika from 1959 until her passing on Friday, June 15, 2018 at the home of her daughter. She was 95 years old.

Alpha loved her Lord, her family, gospel music, Auburn football, and the Atlanta Braves. She was a Southern Christian lady of strong will and faith. She was a wonderful cook.

Before glaucoma took her eyesight, she prepared many loving meals for her family. She was an extraordinarily loving, caring, and giving person. She had an infectious laugh, something that will echo in her loved ones’ memories forever more.

She was married to the love of her life, Ed, until his passing in 1989. They were always by each other’s side. They were known as Mr. Ed and Miss Ed by those closest to them.

Alpha worked for years at Flowers Baking Company before leaving to be by Mr. Ed’s side in the operation of their family-owned shoe business, Ed’s Footwear. After retiring from the shoe business, she did what she loved most, being a homemaker and growing vegetable and flower gardens. She and Mr. Ed grew and sold watermelons and tomatoes by the roadside of their home for many years where they greeted old and new friends alike on a daily basis.

Her family knows that God has surely received a special angel. This devoted wife, Mom, and Granny leaves behind a family that will miss her very much. Along with her parents, seven brothers and two sisters, Alpha was preceded in death by her loving husband, Ed, and daughter, Elaine.

She is survived by her daughter, Dorothy Griggs, and her husband, Ronnie; her grandson, Jason, and his wife, Andrea; a sister, Ruth McLean; as well as many nieces, nephews and friends. The family would like to thank Kindred Hospice Care for their support, especially Nurse Jessica. Graveside Services will be held 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, June 19, 2018 at Garden Hills Cemetery with Dr. Rusty Sowell officiating.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that donations be made in her name to Providence Baptist Church Building Fund.
