Alvin A. Lang, 93, of Bascom, passed away Friday afternoon, December 7, 2018 at Mercy Health-Tiffin Hospital. He was born on June 4, 1925 in Fostoria to Anton and Theresa (Filliater) Lang. On June 5, 1948 he married Norma J. Frankart and she preceded him in death on September 8, 2013.

Survivors include a son, Craig (Karen) Lang of Bascom; three grandchildren, Matt (Amber) Lang, Josh (Abby) Lang and Katie Lang; great grandson, Brody and twins Braxton and Parker Lang; brother, Wilbur Lang of Findlay; sister, Donna (George Reinhart) Newlove of Fostoria. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, infant brother, brothers, Robert, Gilbert, Norbert and Raymond Lang; sisters, Margaret Elchert, Helen Fleck and Pauline Lang. Alvin was a member of All Saints Parish, New Riegel former member of St. Patrick Catholic Church, Bascom.

He worked as a shipping clerk at Excel Wire and Cable for over 37 years and painted for years even after retirement. Founding father of the Bascom Lions Club, three time past President, District Officer and recipient of the Melvin Jones Award. Alvin was in the U.S. Navy from 1943-1946 serving on several ships during WWII.

He was a Life Member of the Tiffin Moose Lodge, NASCAR fan and attended every Indianapolis 500 since 1964, missing the past few years due to health reasons. The Mass of Christian Burial will take place at All Saints Parish, at the Bascom Site at 10:00 AM Wednesday, December 12, 2018 with Rev. Timothy Kummerer officiating.

Burial will follow in Seneca Memory Garden with Military honors by the United Veterans Council. Friends may visit with the family on Tuesday, December 11, 2018 from 4-8 PM at Hoffmamm-Gottfried-Mack Funeral Home & Crematory. Memorial contributions may be made to the Bascom Lions Club or Friends of Meadowbrook Park.
