Ambre Hammond was born April 25, 1983. Way to soon, she passed away on May 09, 2019 having spent just 36 years with us. Ambre is the oldest child and daughter of Michelle Wardell Hammond and Stacey Lee Hammond.
Ambre was joined by her sister Micah, brother Trevor and sister Corinne. Since that time two brothers-in-law, two nieces and a nephew have been added; Ambre loved her family. Her family has grown and also was expanded to a long list of teachers, mentors and friends everywhere she went.
As a young child Ambre had a quick mind and loved to have stories read to her. By the age of 18 months and barely able to talk she was repeating back stories we had read. She developed a love of reading and consumed books of all kinds.
Often spending more time in her room reading than doing the chores she was assigned to do. She developed a love of fantasy that never left her – Xena, anyone? Ambre took being the eldest child to heart.
She enjoyed being in charge subjecting her siblings to her direction in all areas of daily play and routines. Her imagination was unsurpassed in creating fantasy situations and costumes from any items in the house she could get to. Mermaids dressed with blankets and belts – you know to hold the legs and feet together to make a mermaid tail.
Ambre graduated from Copper Hills High School in 2001. She enjoyed participating in the school choir and on the track and field team. Choir lead her to voice lessons where she developed a beautiful voice and enjoyed participating in competitions.
Singing continued to be a part of her life that included karaoke. Running was not on Ambre’s list of things to do so on the track and field team she participated in shot put, discus and javelin. Ambre loved independence and having her own money was part of that.
She worked a number of jobs as she went through school. Everything from school janitorial to fast food and then ended up in the retail grocery business. Retail grocery, at one company or another, is where she spent the rest of her employment life.
Most recently she proudly worked as the Seafood Specialist at Harmons Brickyard store. Ambre was not afraid of hard work, except yard work at home. She put her heart into her work and took pride in all she did.
Ambre’s likes were very eclectic, everything from her music, movies, activities and friends. She could fit in anywhere she found herself but often felt very alone. Country to hard rock, the opera to horse riding, Ambre was willing to take you with.
She loved concerts, operas, travel and just dinner with friends. If you spent time with Ambre you know of her quick wit. She was up for a round of friendly banter at any time and willing to call you out on just about anything.
She liked to be a little extreme, flamboyant, was impulsive and despite the denials she seemed to be in the middle of it all. All things shiny gathered Ambre’s attention – jewelry, belts, crystals and gems, oh, and knives were always on the shopping list. Ambre so often put out the tough girl attitude but she truly was soft, loving, fiercely loyal, exasperating and yet wonderful.
She was born with an independent spirit and no matter what the “discussion” was she proceeded in her own direction. We are so sad, but we have memories. We miss you and love you.
Memorial service for Ambre is pending and will be posted here when finalized. In lieu of flowers please donate to Mercury One humanitarian efforts at mercuryone.org Mercury One is a humanitarian aid and education organization focused on restoring the human spirit.
