Andres’ Obituary Andres Alvarez Elizondo M.D. (Board Certified Diplomat of American Board of Internal Medicine), born to Raquel and Bruno Elizondo on May 21, 1949 in Robstown, TX, passed away peacefully at his home on January 16, 2019 at the age of 69. Andres proudly served in the United States Army National Guard. He obtained a Mathematics and Biology degree at Texas A&I Kingsville.
He was accepted to UTHSC Medical School in San Antonio, TX in 1975 and graduated in 1979. Upon graduation, he was accepted into the Baylor Residency Program in Houston, TX where he proudly studied under various instructors; including world-renowned heart specialist, Dr. Michael DeBakey, and Dr. Denton Cooley. After completing his residency program, he chose to practice in South Texas to be a servant-leader for his beloved wife’s community of Alice, TX and the surrounding area.
As the first Board Certified Diplomat of American Board of Internal Medicine, he and his wife proudly built a medical practice focused upon helping those in need while still striving to give people access to cutting edge technology. He thoroughly enjoyed watching Coyote games and attending his children’s events. Andres is preceded in death by his biological mother, Raquel Alvarez Elizondo; father, Bruno Zuniga Elizondo; and son, Javier Adrian Garcia Elizondo.
He is survived by his loving wife of 48 years, Blanca Noemi Garcia Elizondo; mother, Mary Helen Elizondo; sons, Andres Elizondo II, Carlos Elizondo M.D. (Mari), Arturo Elizondo (Stephanie), and Miguel Elizondo (Danette); daughter, Mariel Alvarez (Rafael); daughter-in-law, Dorella Munoz Elizondo; brothers, Bruno Rene Elizondo and Jessie Elizondo; sisters, Nora Garcia (Richard), Mary Elizabeth Elizondo, and Carol Ruelas (Frank); grandchildren, Andres Elizondo III, Sergio Elizondo, Xavier Elizondo, Carlos Elizondo, Diego Elizondo, Ema Elizondo, Jude Alvarez, Miguel Elizondo II, Ava Elizondo, Vivian Elizondo, and Gael Alvarez; nieces, Brenda Elizondo, Melissa Garcia, Jessica Elizondo, Criselda Ruelas and Marisella Ruelas; and nephews, Ricardo Garcia, David Garcia, Marcos Garcia, Robby Garcia, and Frank Ruelas Jr. A Holy Rosary will be recited on Sunday, January 20, 2019, at 7:30 PM at St. Joseph Catholic Church. Visitation will be held Monday, January 21, 2019, at 8:00 AM to 12:00 PM at Treviño Funeral Home, 120 E. Front St Alice, TX. A funeral cortege will depart the funeral home at 12:45: PM to St. Joseph Catholic Church where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 1:00 PM.
Rite of Committal and Interment will follow at Elizondo cemetery, behind the Elizondo home, 3262 FM RD 1930, Alice, TX (off 665).
