Obituary for Andrew Bertagna A Mass of Christian Burial will be held For Andrew Louis Bertagna, 63 of Chico, on Thursday, June 7, 2018 at 10 a.m. at St John the Baptist Catholic Church. A vigil service will be held Wednesday, June 6 at 7 p.m. also at St. John’s. Andy passed away unexpectedly at his home on Wednesday, May 30, 2018.

Andy was born on April 20, 1955 in Chico to Ben and Carmen Bertagna. He graduated from Chico High School in 1973 and attended Butte College. In 1975 he married Janet Hoobler at St. John’s Catholic Church.

Andy farmed almonds and walnuts for his whole life. He was an active supporter of 4H, FFA and was a founding member of Friends of Agriculture and was a member of Chico High Ag Boosters. He enjoyed supporting and watching his children and grand children show livestock at Silver Dollar and the Butte County fairs.

Andy was proud of his daughters graduating from U.C. Davis and Cal Poly SLO and continuing his passion for agriculture. Andy and Janet received the Honorary Chapter FFA Degree and the Farm City Celebration Ag Service Award. He was also a member of Knights of Columbus and was an active parent at Notre Dame School.

Andy was a member and served on various councils at Our Divine Savior Catholic Church and St. John the Baptist Catholic Church. He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Janet Bertagna of Chico; daughters, Theresa (T.J.) Schneider of Chico and Jenny (Tim) Holtermann of Wasco; father in law, Harold Hoobler of Chico; brothers, Ben (Mary Jane) Bertagna of Chico and Nick ( Gail) Bertagna of Chico; grandchildren, Emma and Holly Schneider and Henry and Hazel Holtermann. He will also be missed by his many nieces and nephews.
