Obituary for Loring John “Red” Dale Loring John “Red” Dale passed from this world to the next on July 2, 2008. He lived 95 whirlwind years. Red was born September 18, 1922 to Loring and Greeba Dale in Santa Ana, California.

His early life on the walnut ranch with his pony led to his life endeavors. Graduation from Santa Ana High School in 1941 was followed by enrollment in Cal Poly San Louis Obispo which was interrupted by 4 years service in WWII U.S. Navy. Red served as Radarman 1st Class, before the word radar was spoken, aboard a Destroyer Escort in the Atlantic.

He returned to Cal Poly to graduate in Animal Science and cattle feeding. His participation in the rodeo program led him to be the “All Around Champion Cowboy” of the first Poly Royal. He went on to be Livestock Superintendent at Cow Palace, Calif.

State Fair and Western Livestock Show which lead to his service as Executive Secretary and Field Representative for the California Hereford Association. His education and experience created the opportunity to be Feedlot Manager for the Kern County Land and Cattle Company, Camp and Mebane Feedlot in Bakersfield and Victorio Cattle Co. in Oregon. In combination with the 3 feedlots, he supervised the care, feeding and sale of over 3 million head of cattle, more from the back of his horse than in the office.

Red met and married the love of his life, Becky and her 2 children, Kay and Bob and dog James, in 1952. They led a happy married life for 52 years until her passing in 2004. Through those 52 years, they lived in Bakersfield, Parma, Idaho,, Redding, CA and settled in Durham, Ca where he and Becky found many new friends and were close to family.

Red was a member of the Commanche Riders Association, Modoc Riders Assoc. ,riding his horse Dollar, and his mule Marsha on many adventurous rides. His other memberships were Sirs 84, Elks for 65 years, and the NRA.

He was an amazing Horseman and avid hunter and fisherman. Red was a past president and Honorary Lifetime member of the California Cattle Feeders Association. Red Dale is survived by his daughter, Kay, and Jerry Walters of Durham, son Robert (deceased 2015) and Carol Dale of Redding.

Grandchildren, John Walters, Pam & Jerry Pemberton, Nicole & Dave Eads along with many great and great-great grandchildren. Requiam Mass will be held Tuesday, July 17, 2018 at St. Augustine of Canterbury Anglican Church, 4th & Salem, Chico at 11:00 AM. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St Augustine’s Church or to Enloe Foundation, in care of Brusie Funeral Home.
