Angelo J. “Pete” Vassallo, Jr., 84, of Huron, passed away peacefully late Wednesday morning, May 8, 2019, in the Stein Hospice Care Center, Sandusky, after a brief illness. Born on October 4, 1934, in Sandusky, the son of Angelo Joseph and Mariangela (Frederick) Vassallo, Sr.. He had worked at the Sandusky Foundry and Machine Company for 30 years, retiring in 1996.

Prior to that, he worked at Lyman Boats for 15 years. What he enjoyed to do and found comfort in was driving downtown and spending time at the Jackson Street Pier. Pete was a member of Holy Angels Catholic Church, the Holy Name Society and a former member of the Italian-American Beneficial Club.

He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Patricia J. (Andrews) Vassallo, whom he married on June 27, 1953; his family, Joseph (Tonya) Vassallo of Sandusky, Jeanne (Earnest) Jones of Sandusky, Timothy Vassallo of Milan, Mary Jane (Robert) Miceli of Wickliffe, Daniel (Cheryl) Vassallo of Huron and Janet (Joseph Andrews) Vassallo of Port Clinton; 14 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-granddaughter due in August; and numerous nieces and nephews. Pete was preceded in death by his parents; a granddaughter, Ally; a great-grandson, Weston; 3 sisters, Angeline LaMarca Farrar, Carmella Meinert and Rose Eastman; 4 brothers, James, Carl, Anthony and Donald Vassallo. Visitation will be held on Monday, May 13, 2019, from 4-7 pm at the David F. Koch Funeral and Cremation Services, 520 Columbus Avenue, Sandusky.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Tuesday morning, May 14, 2019, at 10 am at Holy Angels Catholic Church, 428 Tiffin Avenue, Sandusky. Fr. Matt Frisbee officiating.

Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Sandusky. The family suggests that memorial contributions may be made in his memory to Holy Angels Catholic Church, 428 Tiffin Avenue, Sandusky, OH 44870. The family would also like to thank the staffs of the Providence Care Center and Stein Hospice for the endless care that they had given to their dad and family during this difficult time.
