Obituary for Anna Marie Jenkins Anna Marie Painter Jenkins, 83, of Culpeper, passed away on July 13th, 2018, at her residence. Marie was born September 3, 1934, the youngest of four children, to the late Floyd Melvin & Anna Mary Painter. She met her husband, Robert Lee Jenkins, Jr., in the summer of 1951 and they were married January 18, 1952.
Marie chose to be a stay at home Mom and raise their four children. In 1979 she decided to return to work outside of the home as a food service employee with the Culpeper County School system and began at Farmington Elementary. She loved being with the children and made many life-long friends of her co-workers.
Special friends are Louise Walker, Marie Farnam, Rachel McAlister, Mabel Stanley, Edith Curtis, and numerous others who were very dear to her. In 1983 she accepted the role of Food Service Manager at Pearl Sample Elementary school and served in this capacity until her retirement in 1999. With Marie at the helm, there were no children who went hungry.
She was dearly loved by all the children and even when they were grown, they remembered her making sure they had food on their tray. Marie enjoyed her family and was a faithful, hard working mother of four, grandmother of eight and great-grandmother of ten. Marie was married to Robert L. Jenkins, Jr. (Bob) for 61 years before he passed October 8, 2013.
Despite suffering with dementia herself, she was by his side everyday throughout his illness and at his passing. She truly demonstrated what love is in marriage. She battled dementia for over 10 years and still had a smile on her face and was kind and compassionate to all.
Marie was a life-long member of the Culpeper United Methodist Church and served in the Women’s Circle groups and as a Sunday School teacher when her children were small. She enjoyed her church family until her later years when her sickness made it difficult to attend. Even with the dementia taking her strength and memories, she still found joy in singing along with her favorite hymns while looking at her husband’s photos.
She leaves behind to forever treasure her memory her four children; Robert Lee Jenkins, III, Mary Lynn Jenkins McMullen, Floyd Steven Jenkins, and Gina Marie Jenkins Aylor, two sons-in-law; Dennis McMullen and Tony Aylor, grandchildren; Robert Jenkins, IV, Michael Jenkins, Chelsea Jenkins High, Denny McMullen, Julie McMullen Bostic, Cody Jenkins, Brittany Jenkins, and Shane Aylor, and ten great-grand children. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her sister, Nina Rachel Martin, and brothers Raymond M. “Jack” Painter, Joseph O.L. Painter, and one granddaughter, Brandi Donnelle Jenkins. The family would like to thank Marie’s private caregivers for all of their love and compassion.
They were each blessings beyond words in allowing her to leave from this world into God’s arms with grace. We would also like to thank Hospice of the Piedmont who have assisted over the past months. A funeral service will be held Tuesday, July 17, 2018, at 1:00 pm at Found and Sons Funeral Chapel, 850 Sperryville Pike, Culpeper, VA with Elder John Fotenos officiating.
