Anthony Bruno Carmignani – Tony to friends and family – passed away peacefully at home on April 19, 2018, surrounded by family. Born in Hinsdale, IL on February 10, 1940, Tony was preceded in death by his parents Bruno Angelo Carmignani and Hazel Marie Carmignani nee Larson, and his younger brother James Larsen Carmignani. Tony grew up in Clarendon Hills, IL and attended Hinsdale Township High School, starring in football, basketball and baseball.

In 1962, Tony graduated from Furman, he and Ellen were married in Chesterfield, SC and he became a biology teacher and tennis coach at Wade Hampton High School in Greenville, SC. In 1964 Tony was commissioned an officer in the United States Army.

A veteran of the Vietnam Conflict, Tony served for seven years and was the recipient of the Army Commendation Medal, Bronze Star and National Defense Medal Viet Nam, Phase III TET and VN Counteroffensive Phase IV & V. After resigning from the Army in 1971, Tony entered the insurance business in South Carolina. In 1974 he purchased a manufacturing company Lorenzo’s Frozen Foods in Westchester, IL and merged it with his father’s family meat-packing business. Tony moved his family back to his hometown area of Hinsdale, IL where he would run the business and remain active in the community for the rest of his life.

He was a proud member of Union Church of Hinsdale, a trustee of the Community House, and one of the original Community House Players. Tony returned to his childhood church, Community Presbyterian Church of Clarendon Hills, after he and Ellen moved to Westmont, IL in 2000. Tony is survived by his beloved wife of 56 years, Ellen Virginia Carmignani nee Pusser, his children Jim (Kim) Carmignani of Naperville, IL, Dina Carmignani-Bunn of Fort Lauderdale, FL, and Timothy (Mary) Carmignani of Darien, IL, and his sister Dorthe Carmignani of Bradenton, FL.

Tony was the adoring grandfather of Elizabeth Carmignani, Katherine (Daniel) Webster, Allison (Aaron) Biskie, Zachary Bunn, Jordan Bunn and Dixon Bunn and dear uncle of Justin (Kim) Cody. He will be lovingly remembered by scores of close cousins, nieces and nephews. Tony was a friend to everyone he met, and had many, many treasured friendships from every part of his life.

A celebration of Tony’s life and legacy will be held on Saturday, May 12, 2018 at 1:00 pm at Community Presbyterian Church, 39 N Prospect Ave, Clarendon Hills, IL 60514. Memorial donations may be made to the James L. Carmignani Scholarship Fund, 10 W. Chicago Ave. , Hinsdale, IL 60521.
