It’s with deep sorrow and great sadness that we, his loving children, announce the sudden passing of Anthony “Tony” Damien Delaney on May 5, 2019. Better known as “Bones” around the neighborhood, respectably called “Rex” by his children’s friends, and to his mother, who endured the brunt of his mischievous antics, he was simply “Buster”. He will be dearly missed by the love of his life, Donna Gilinger, his children, his reason for being, Kelly (Paul) Delaney, Mark (Julia) Delaney, and Megan (John) Delaney, and step-children, Lynn (Kris) Hansberry, Jenn (Troy) Quinn, and Mary (Brian) Gilinger, Frank (Courtney) Gilinger, and John Gilinger.
Also survived by his beautiful angel, grand-daughter, Miabella Angelina Delaney, and grandchildren, Alyssa and Jackson Hansberry, Liliana and Hudson Quinn, and Arias Gilinger. As well as siblings, Rosemary Priest, Vincent Delaney, Laurence (Susan) Delaney, Raymond (Carolyn) Delaney, and Rebecca (Neal) Rose, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Born to loving parents (predeceased) William “Billy” and Rosemary “Sweetie” Delaney, of Andorra, on February 8, 1956, he spent his youth down the crick with his boys, who went on to become lifelong friends.
He attended Immaculate Heart of Mary School, ‘70 and Archbishop Kennedy High School, ‘74. Immediately following graduation, he began his career at Philadelphia Gas Works, where he first served as a “meter reader”, but with hard work and dedication he was soon promoted to “gas man”. However, it was the profound love for his children, and his ambition to provide for them as best he could that motivated him to attend night school, where he earned the title of “HVAC Specialist”.
During his 23 years at the gas company he forged lasting friendships with the men he worked beside. Perfecting his craft afforded him the ability to fulfill his dream of working for himself, as the owner and operator of Delaney Heating and Cooling, where he provided honest and affordable, quality HVAC services. It had been clear all along that his heart was too big for this world, and as it became heavier and heavier over time, he became tired and weak under its weight, and when it became a burden almost too much to bare, God brought him home to be reunited into the loving arms of his parents, and brother, Michael, his Irish twin.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in his name to The Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia, which saved the life of someone he held near and dear to his heart. His loved ones, friends, and relatives are invited on Saturday, May 11, 2019, for Calling Hours from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. at the Koller Funeral Home, 6835 Ridge Ave. , Philadelphia.
With a service immediately following at 11 a.m. Condolences may be shared at www.
