Anthony Freitas Coelho, 94, of Newman Ave. , Rumford, passed away Saturday, Dec. 22, 2018.

He was the husband of the late Evelyn (Barboza) Coelho. Born Aug. 6, 1924, in Providence, he was a son of the late Manuel and Maria Rosario (Freitas) Coelho.

Mr. Coelho was a US Army veteran of WWII and was awarded the European African Middle Eastern Service medal with 3 bronze stars and 1 bronze arrowhead, for his participation in the Invasion of Normandy, the Northern France Campaign and the Rhineland Offensive. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus Fatima Council. He worked as a truck driver for Fairway Display Co

He leaves his daughters, Linda Coelho of Charlotte, NC, and Phyllis Handy of Rumford; his son, Anthony Coelho of No. Providence; and his granddaughters, Melissa Costa and Jessica Coelho. He was the brother of the late Matthew Coelho, Delores Dupont and Alice Alves.

His funeral will begin Thursday, Dec. 27, at 9am from the Rebello Funeral Home and Crematory, 901 Broadway, East Providence, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10am in Sacred Heart Church, 118 Taunton Ave. , East Providence.

Burial with military honors will follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday morning from 8am until 9am. Memorial donations are greatly appreciated to St. Jude Children’s Hospital, PO Box 1000, Dept.
