Antonio G. Robles August 02, 1927 – February 03, 2019 Share this obituary Sign Guestbook Antonio G. Robles our beloved father, grandpa and friend, passed away peacefully on Sunday evening surrounded by his loving family. He was 91 years old. He was born August 2, 1927 to Maria Nieves and Jesus Robles in Rosebud, Texas.
He was the last surviving sibling of ten children. Antonio was raised in Valle Hermoso, Mexico. He shared many stories of his adventures growing up on the “rancho” with his brothers and traveling throughout the United States doing odd jobs.
As a young man he was taught the skill of a carpentry and he continued to do this throughout his life. He proudly spoke of and showed us buildings in the Rexburg and surrounding areas that he helped build. He married Zulema Andaverde in 1948, this was one of the best decisions of his life.
She was a true companion and the love of his life. It was not unusual to see him take her by the hand and start dancing in the kitchen while she was cooking. She influenced him to make choices that would improve their lives.
In 1949 they welcomed their first child into their lives, she was born in Valle Hermosa, Mexico and the family grew rapidly to ten children, five daughters and five sons. Sylvia Eyre (Steve), Rosa Hillstead (Rick), Mary Hill (Dan) Leticia Wright (Alan) Manuel Antonio, (Yanet) Jose Luis, Javier, Gerardo (Lisa), Ricardo (Kathy), Cindy Mason (Dusty). He has 31 grandchildren and 48 great grandchildren.
I’m the spring of 1960 in the hopes of providing a brighter future for his family they loaded their growing family in a 1952 Chevy and traveled to Idaho. A brother said that he could support his growing family in the fields of Idaho, they found potatoes, sugar beets and wheat fields. They soon discovered that they could not care for their family in this way.
Dad went looking for a job to earn enough money to return to Texas, but our mother had another idea. She was staying here, and that’s what our family did, we stayed. They lived in Sugar City, Teton and finally buying their first home in St Anthony.
Some of his hobbies were fishing, hunting, baseball and watching professional fights on TV. One of his biggest thrills was harvesting a moose when he was 80 years old. He also took pleasure driving his car with his dog by his side.
He had a wonderful sense of humor, telling jokes and entertaining the grandkids with his magic tricks. He loved to sing to his grandchildren and dance with them. His grandchildren will always remember the many fishing trips they took with him.
Our Dad was a hard worker who taught all of us this principle by his actions, he passed this work ethic on to his children and grandchildren. Keeping in contact with his mother, brothers, sisters, nephews and nieces was very important to him. For many years he would load all twelve of us into the family station wagon and travel many miles to Mexico to spend time with them.
We cherish the many family vacations that we took with him. We continued to travel with our parents as adults, there is one very memorable trip we took to Cancun with 19 people that consisted of their children, grandchildren, and daughter-in-law. He lived his life to the fullest and loved sharing his wisdom with all who were willing to listen.
He loved his family more than can be expressed by words. We want to thank Solace Hospice nurses and aides who gave us all the support and help needed during his illness. They were vital in providing help and comfort for our dad.
