Obituary of Arleen Gilderhus Arleen Edythe Gilderhus passed away at her home on February 11th, 2019. She was 92 years old. While White Salmon had been her home for the last 59 years, she was born in Larabee, North Dakota on December 27th, 1926 to Ruben and Anna (Bonderud) Luttschwager.

She graduated from Oberon High School in 1944 and achieved a teaching certificate during World War II during which she taught for a short amount of time. She married Severt Gilderhus on April 19th, 1946 in Sheyenne, North Dakota. After thirteen years of marriage, Severt and Arleen moved to White Salmon and made a home for them and their children.

She worked for many years at the Cannery and at Duckwall-Pooley in Hood River and Odell from the 1960’s until she retired in 2003. She was an active member of Our Savior Lutheran Church in Bingen for many years. Her hobbies included doing puzzles, crosswords and reading or anything that kept her mind busy.

She sewed for her kids and other family members. Her family will miss her laugh, her predictions about the weather, talking about gas prices and her spinority personality. She was preceded in death by her husband Severt, son Loren, brothers Ray and Wilbur, and sister Gail as well as her parents.

She is survived by her sister Marliss of Minneapolis, Minnesota and Delores of Carrington, North Dakota, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. She is also survived by daughters Luann McGraw and husband Howard (Austin) of Vancouver, WA, Susan Wilkinson and husband Tom of Goodyear, AZ, and Lori Nielsen and husband Bill of Mill A , WA. She is also survived by her sons Lynn Gilderhus of Lakewood, WA, Mark Gilderhus and wife Judy of Eugene, OR, Steven Gilderhus of White Salmon, Michael Gilderhus and wife Kathy of White Salmon, Robert Gilderhus and wife Lynn of Florence, AZ and best friend Shirley Moore of White Salmon.

She was well loved by her 24 grandchildren, over 30 great-grandchildren and many (and still counting) great-great grandchildren. The family would like to thank the numerous nurses and doctors including Dr. Deodhar, Dr. Regalbuto, and Dr. Ready. In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting donations be made in her name to the White Salmon Branch of the Fort Vancouver Regional Library.

The service will be Sunday March 10th, 2019 at Gardner Funeral Home at 1pm. The viewing will be Saturday March 9th, 2019, from noon to 4:30pm also at Gardner’s.
