Dunning, 93, of Spalding, NE, passed away Tuesday, February 19, 2019 at Tiffany Square in Grand Island, NE. A Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:00 a.m., Saturday, February 23, 2019 at St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Spalding, NE with Fr. Antony Thekkekara and Fr.

James Murphy officiating. Burial will follow at St. Michael’s Catholic Cemetery, Spalding, NE. Visitation will be Saturday morning from 9:00 a.m. until service time at the church.

Memorials are suggested to the family for later designation. Dolce-Scheef Mortuary of Spalding, NE is in charge of arrangements. Mrs. Dunning was born August 17, 1925 at Wolbach, NE to Aloyisus J. (A.J.) and Angela (Nellie) G. (Stancyk) Sawicki.

She was baptized in O’Connor, NE. Arlene attended and graduated from Sacred Heart School in Greeley. She met Leonard F. Dunning while he was the County Veterans’ Service Officer in Greeley and she was employed by the County Agent’s Office in Greeley.

They were married Sept. 16, 1950 at Sacred Heart Church in Greeley, NE. The couple moved to Spalding and resided there until the Spalding Manor closed.

Arlene was employed by Semper Insurance, Dr. Robert Fox, and the U.S. Post Office. She and Leonard worked many years together and later retired at the same time from the U.S. Post Office in Spalding. Arlene & Leonard enjoyed travelling.

They especially enjoyed their trips to the east coast while Leonard continued his military training. Arlene was a life-time member of the American Legion Auxiliary and St. Anne’s Altar Society in Spalding. She was patriotic supporter and proudly displayed the American flag whenever appropriate.

She loved Leonard and was so very proud of his dedication and service to our country. Arlene was preceded in death by her husband, Leonard, in 2013, her parents, her older brother, Robert, and his wife Edna, her sister-in-law, Rita (Dunning) and brother-in-law, Michael Naughtin, and brother-in-law Robert Dunning. Survivors include her brother, Gerald, and wife, Roberta Sawicki.

Also surviving are numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, great-great-nieces, and great-great-nephews. As we lay to rest the last member of this generation of Dunnings/Naughtins, it is certain to be a frigid morning. Please consider the weather conditions if you choose to attend.
