Richard “Dick”‘s Obituary Richard “Dick” E. Nelson, 85, of Albion, NE, passed away on Wednesday, May 15, 2019 at the Good Samaritan Society-Albion in Albion, NE. Memorial services will be 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, May 21, 2019, at United Methodist Church in Albion, NE with Rev. Janet Burgel officiating.

Visitation will be 1 hour prior to the service at the church. Inurnment at Rose Hill Cemetery will be at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the family for a later designation.

Levander Funeral Home of Albion, NE is in charge of arrangements. Richard “Dick” Ernest Nelson, son of Ernest and Dorothy (Woods) Nelson was born on July 30, 1933 at Bradish, NE. He was baptized on April 14, 1946 and confirmed on May 18, 1947, at Salem Lutheran Church, rural St. Edward, NE.

Dick attended elementary school at Boone County School District #63 and graduated from Albion High School in 1950. Following his graduation, Dick continued working on the family farm. On January 4, 1957 Dick was inducted into the US Army, and received his basic training at Fort Ord, CA.

He was transferred to Fort Gordon, GA and served in the Military Police. While in the service Dick was united in marriage to Jeannice Rasmusson on September 21, 1957 at the United Methodist Church in Norfolk, NE. They lived one year in Augusta, GA, until his honorable discharge on October 6, 1958, they then returned to Albion, NE to resume farming.

He was a member of Salem Lutheran Church, joined the United Methodist Church in Norfolk on September 20, 1957, and then transferred his membership to the United Methodist Church in Albion, NE. Dick served on the Boone County School District #49 Board of Education, and he was a Committee man for ASCS. He enjoyed driving around and reading farming magazines.

Dick is survived by his wife: Jeannice Nelson of Albion, NE; daughter: Sherry Riese of Norfolk, NE; two sons: Rick (Connie) Nelson and Randy (Andrea) Nelson all of Albion, NE; eight grandchildren: Dustin, Kalin, Stacy, Derek, Brett, Gina, Mack, and Emma; eight great-grandchildren; sister: Virginia Krohn of Albion, NE; niece: Nancy (Terry) Ahlers; nephews: Charles (Cheryl) Krohn and Ronald (Nancee) Krohn all of Albion, NE, along with many other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; son-in-law: David Riese and brother-in-law: William Krohn.
