OBITUARY Mr. Arthur Mendelsohn October 25, 1926 – October 27, 2018 Arthur Mendelsohn died peacefully October 27, 2018, two days following his 92nd birthday. He was preceded in death by his best friend and love of his life for 67 years, Josephine. A man of generous heart and deed, and we will miss him dearly A Seattle native born to Annie and Jacob Mendelsohn, Art served in the Merchant Marines during WWII.

Following brief involvement in commercial fishing, he devoted his full energies to his family and developing a surplus machinery and marine parts enterprise that attracted loyal customers worldwide. Art was a strategic thinker and self-taught business man and entrepreneur who earned the respect of clients and competitors through honesty, trust and civility. He did his homework, delivered a great product and always stood behind what he sold.

His handshake spoke volumes and was all that really mattered. He often quoted his own dad, reminding us, “You only have one reputation and it’s your most valuable asset”. Art’s cherished family was his greatest love.

He had many interests and talents. He delighted in his recently published book of poetry, enjoyed telling stories, sharing jokes and singing to his great-grandchildren. He had a deep sense of social justice, the sciences, the environment and world we share.

Art and Josephine had four children, Karen Warner, Mike Mendelsohn, Linda Overa (of blessed memory) and Margie Kraft, eight grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren. Art’s siblings: Leonard Mendelsohn (of blessed memory), Sam Mendelsohn (of blessed memory), Gertrude Lillith (of blessed memory), and Sophie Levin. Special, and heartfelt, thanks to Rabbi James Mirel, family, friends and caregivers.
