OBITUARY August F. “Augie” Holderried January 9, 1936 – October 30, 2018 August “Augie” F. Holderried, 82, of Largo, passed away on Tuesday, October 30th. He will be missed by his loving family and friends. August graduated from Abraham Clark High School in 1953 while living in Roselle, NJ.

There he met his high school sweet heart, and love of his life: Alida “Lee”. They married in 1955. August was passionate about so many things over the course of his life, but baseball was his first love.

He played the position of pitcher in high school, and later pitched for the US Army team while in Korea. He was known as “Lefty”. He was drafted by the Brooklyn Dodgers and Philadelphia Phillies.

Following the birth of his first daughter he settled into family life and worked for Proctor and Gamble in Staten Island, NY as a warehouse manager. August and his wife, “Lee” moved down to Florida in 1998. Here they shared a wonderful life in the sunshine state!

August lived to fish, golf, hunt, party, listen to 50’s and Motown music, go crabbing, and be around family. He was a member of the Boy Scouts, Elks, American Legion, VFW, Suncoast Mustang Club, and served as a volunteer fireman for the Colonia Fire Department. He loved being an umpire for little league baseball.

August was a member of St. Jerome Catholic Church. There he served as an usher and was a bingo caller. August is predeceased by his loving wife, Alida “Lee”.

He is survived and remembered by daughters: Susan Shipp (Earl) of Indian Shores, FL, Kathryn Greene of Metuchen, NJ, Beth Samu (Larry) of Edison, NJ, and Jill Yacullo of Jackson, NJ, grandchildren: Melissa, Rachel, Kristen (Mark), Bryan, (Brittany), Johnnie (Desiree), Christina (Timothy), and Jessica, great-grandchildren: Luis and Jackson, brother: Wayne Holderried, and special friend: Joan. Augie truly was the life of the party. Visitation and Celebration of Augie’s Life will be Friday, November 2nd at Serenity Funeral Home in Largo, 13401 Indian Rocks Rd, Largo, FL, from 4-7pm with military honors at 5:30pm.

Funeral Mass will be held at St. Jerome Catholic Church on Saturday, November 3rd at 1pm. The family asks that in lieu of flowers donations be made to Suncoast Hospice, Korean War Vets, or a charity of your choice.
