Augusto Asturias, 68, of Bayonne, passed away at home surrounded by his loving family on Sunday, September 16, 2018. Augusto was born and raised in the Philippines. After completing his education there he returned to his alma mater, St. Francis of Assisi High School where he became a coach and teacher of sports education.

His passion and talent for soccer caught the attention of team officials from the Philippines National Soccer Team which eventually led to a career as a pro soccer player for Augusto that lasted for many years. In 1993 Augusto emigrated to the United States where he settled in Bayonne. He was employed as an elevator operator for the Gramercy Park Hotel in New York City before his retirement in 2005.

Augusto was predeceased by his beloved parents, Victor and Loretto (Magdato) Asturias; and his sisters and brothers. He leaves behind to cherish his wonderful legacy his wife of 45 years, Milagros (Zara) Asturias; three daughters, Laurice Wojtowicz and husband Gregory, Heidi Tiozon and husband Francis and Leslie Asturias, his son Romano Asturias and wife Kristine, two brothers, Victor and Manuel Asturias, his sister, Margaret Soliman, and his adored ten grandchildren. Relatives and friends are invited to attend a visitation at the Dworzanski & Son Funeral Home on Thursday, September 20, from 4:00 to 9:00 p.m. A funeral mass in Augusto’s honor will be offered on Friday, September 21, at 10:00 a.m. from the Parish of Saint John Paul II at Our Lady of Mt.

Carmel Church, 39 East 22nd Street, Bayonne.
