Barbara A. Herbig, 79, of Ferdinand, passed away on Wednesday, May 8th at Memorial Hospital and Healthcare Center in Jasper. Barbara was born January 4, 1940 in Ferdinand to Anthony and Frieda (Boeglin) Olinger. She married Gerald “Jerry’ Herbig on May 28, 1960 in St. Ferdinand Catholic Church.

He preceded her in death on December 6, 2013. Barbara was a member of Christ the King Parish, St. Ferdinand Church and its Daughters of Isabella. She enjoyed playing cards and belonged to numerous card clubs.

Barbara is survived by a son, Rick (Ava) Herbig of Cincinnati, OH; two daughters, Debbie (Phil) Hoffman and Sue Herbig all of Jasper; three brothers, James (Shirley) Olinger and Andy (Nancy) Olinger all of Ferdinand, Jerry (Julie) Olinger of Huntingburg; two sisters, Mary Lee Meyer of Mariah Hill and Norma (Del) Steinhart of Jasper; four grandchildren, Stephanie (Davis) Hasenour and Nicholas (Brooke) Hoffman all of Ireland, Bradley (Lindsey) Herbig of Philadelphia, PA. and Kevin Herbig of Gaithersburg, MD; five great-grandchildren, Karley Black, Jake Hasenour, Parker Hoffman, Ace Hasenour and Lucy Hasenour. Funeral services will be Tuesday, May 14th at 10:00 AM in St. Ferdinand Catholic Church with burial to follow in the church cemetery.

Visitation will be Monday, May 13th at Becher Funeral Home in Ferdinand from 4-7:00 PM and also Tuesday from 7-9:30 AM at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the Sisters of St. Benedict. Online condolences may be shared at www.
