Barbara Allie Barnett Beckett October 17, 1939 ~ November 6, 2018 Our loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, Barbara Beckett, passed away on Tuesday, November 6, 2018 right at nursing shift change. She was born on October 17, 1939 in Ogden, Utah, to Charles and Allie Barnett. She graduated from Ogden High School, played saxophone, and was in the fifth graduating nursing class at Weber State University.

She met her “dahlink,” Vernon Beckett, on a blind date. They were sealed for eternity in the Salt Lake Temple on November 17, 1960. They raised six children together.

They stood faithfully side by side for 52 years of marriage until Vernon’s death in 2013. Mom took pride in providing compassionate medical care as a registered nurse at the Old Dee Hospital, McKay Hospital, and later at St. Benedict’s. She also was a public health nurse in Ogden City School District.

She was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, serving in many callings throughout her life. She enjoyed Scouting, completed Woodbadge, and was responsible for certifying hundreds of boys on their First Aid Merit Badge. Vern and Barbara served four service missions together, including the Addiction Recovery Program, as temple workers, with the Special Needs Mutual, and in the inner city wards.

Mom loved classical music, playing the piano and oboe, and inspired in her children a love for all types of music. She was an excellent cook and held “cooking school” for her grandkids, who adored her. She developed a love and talent for painting in her later years.

Mom had a fun sense of humor and loved to socialize. She was a devoted and compassionate friend and neighbor. She dearly loved her many friends and staff at Family Tree Assisted Living, and her “Bosom Buddies” and Red Hat Society support groups.

Barbara is survived by her daughter, Lorraine Paris; sons, David (Karri), Paul (Melissa), John (Tracy), James (Kristi), and Stephen (Megan); as well as 24 grandchildren and six great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Vernon, and her brothers Elmer Barnett and Warren “Bud” Barnett. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, November 17, 2018, at 11 a.m. at the West Point 13th Ward, 3920 West 800 North, West Point.

Friends may visit with family on Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Lindquist’s Roy Mortuary, 3333 West 5600 South, Roy, and Saturday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the church. Interment, Ben Lomond Cemetery. Although we will miss her dearly, we rejoice in her wonderful reunion with our Dad.
