Obituary for Barbara Ellen Murad Barbara Ellen Murad, age 77, passed away at her home in Coral Gables, Florida surrounded by family on Friday, May 25, 2018. She was born on January 8, 1941 in San Angelo, Texas to William Frank Harris and Frances Emma Harris. Barbara spent her childhood with her sister Lillian Kay in East Texas, Edmonton, Alberta, Canada and Rock Springs, Wyoming.

She later graduated from Powell County High School in Worland, Wyoming in 1959. Barbara married Mike Murad on April 5, 1968 in Ann Arbor, Michigan and had two children, Mark and Mona. Barbara loved spending time with her family, reading, caring for her orchids, watching Jeopardy and enjoying her morning coffee.

She generously donated her time to several philanthropic organizations over the years, including the Patrons of the Miami Museum of Science, Theater Arts League, and the Women’s Club of Coconut Grove. Barbara was also a member of the Black Eagle Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution in Great Falls, Montana. She will be remembered as a smart, humorous and strong woman who lovingly opened her home to many relatives, as a voracious reader and book collector and as the beloved Grandmother to Evan, Lia and Henry.

She is survived by son Mark Murad (Susannah), daughter Mona Ward (Stephen), sister Kay Dahlman (Fred), grandchildren Evan and Lia Ward and Henry Murad and various extended family members. Barbara was preceded in death by her parents, William and Frances of Kilgore, Texas and husband Mike Murad of Hong Kong, China. A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, May 30 from 2pm to 4pm at Van Orsdel Funeral Home 4600 SW 8th Street Coral Gables, Florida.
