Cumberland – Barbara F. (Calland) Michel, 90, of Cumberland passed away peacefully Sunday, November 4, 2018 at the Philip Hulitar Inpatient Center, Providence. She was the beloved wife of Herbert J. Michel. Born in Seekonk, MA, a daughter of the late Joseph B. and Evelyn (Atwell) Calland, she had lived in Cumberland for the past 63 years.

Mrs. Michel was a kindergarten teacher at the Anne C. Green School in Seekonk for many years before retiring. She was a graduate of Pawtucket East High School (now Tolman), attended RISD, and received her Bachelor’s Degree and Master’s Degree in Early Childhood Education from URI. For many years, Barbara was a soloist at the Church of the Good Shepherd, Pawtucket.

Besides her husband, she is survived by her loving children, Janice Macaulay and her husband, William Pastille of Arnold, MD and David Michel and his wife, Linda of Jacksonville, FL; four beloved grandchildren, Elizabeth Macaulay, Jennifer Gregory, and Nathaniel and Samuel Michel; and four beloved great grandchildren, Abraham, Eli and Lucy Prince, and Caleb DeCastro. Relatives and friends may call at Bellows Funeral Chapel, 160 River Road, Lincoln Friday 2-4 P.M. Her funeral and burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Barbara’s memory to Hope Hospice and Palliative Care of Rhode Island, 1085 North Main Street, Providence, RI 02904-9826 or to American Lung Association of Rhode Island, 260 West Exchange Street, Providence, RI 02903 would be appreciated.
