Baxter Robert Woodard, age 77 of Rutherfordton, NC, passed away Wednesday, March 6, 2019 at Mission Hospital in Asheville. Mr. Woodard was born on March 29, 1941 in Johnson County, TN to D.J. and Verna Woodard. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Bill Woodard.

Mr. Woodard was a timber inspector in Asheville and Rutherfordton. He served in the US Army during the Vietnam War where he drove an ammunition truck. He enjoyed woodworking.

Mr. Woodard is survived by: his wife, Evelyn Lewis Woodard; three brothers, Albert Woodard of Greenwood, SC, Mack Ray Woodard of Johnson County, TN, and John Woodard of Knoxville, TN; two sisters, Anne Haslet of Fayetteville and June Williams of Mountain City, TN; also surviving are several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held Sunday at 11:00 am at Ashelawn Memorial Chapel by Pastor Donald Dover. Burial will follow in Ashelawn Memorial Gardens.

The family will receive friends from 10:30 am to 11:00 prior to the service at Ashelawn Memorial Chapel. Words of comfort and remembrance may be viewed or sent to the family through our website at www. ashelawn.com.
